to my husband {day one}

I can recall very vividly sitting outside on the morning of my wedding day, bible in my lap, a cool breeze blowing, and praying to my Lord, asking Him to give me strength, wisdom, and patience (just to name a few) and to help me be the wife that my future husband needed.  In the days since then, there have been countless times that I’ve had to rely on God once again to be my strength, to give me wisdom, and to bless me with patience……but he never fails me.

The Lord calls us to be a help-meet to our husbands, to submit to them, but above all else to love them.  It isn’t always easy putting the needs of someone else above my own.  Especially when I’m exhausted from being a mom and homemaker all day and Husband is sitting in his recliner relaxing.  But it is in these moments that I remember that my service to my family and my husband is my gift to them.  It isn’t meant to be a burden that I lay at their feet and say “Look at all that I’ve done for you today”.  It is meant to bless them.  I want my family to be comfortable and cared for within our home…..and that is what I provide for them.

So, today I reflect on how I can be more intentional as a wife and help-meet to my husband.  Proverbs 31 gives us a mountain of insight into this topic, and can seem a bit daunting at first.  But Proverbs 31:12 states “She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.”  We are called to be a blessing to our husbands, not a curse.  Philippians 2:3-4 says “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.  Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

So, to my sweet husband, I promise to continue to serve you as I am called by the Lord to do.  I will encourage you and uplift you.  I will listen to you and pray for you.  I will provide a comforting place for you to rest your weary soul, and I will consider your needs above my own.  I will intentionally look for ways to be a blessing to you each and every day.

All my love,

Wife
