Driving around town with my littles the other day, KJ informs me from the backseat that she wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up. Now, this isn’t the first time she’s mentioned this to me. And it’s clear to any and every person who meets her that she has a deep love for animals. So, needless to say, I wasn’t surprised.
However, upon learning a little more about the profession, her resolve was a bit shaken. Our conversation went something like this.
Me: That’s great sweetie! Vets are really important to animals and people! But do you really know what a vet does?
KJ: They take care of animals, like dogs and cats.
Me: Well, yes. But they also care for larger, non-pet animals like horses and cows.
KJ: What do you mean?
Oldest daughter chimes in: Yeah they have to do surgeries and stuff.
KJ: Mom?
Me: Well, yes they do. They have to perform surgeries on animals in order to save them sometimes.
KJ: What’s a surgeries??
Me: A surgery is when a doctor has to cut open a person or an animal and do work inside their body in order to heal them.
*silence for a moment*
KJ: Mom, when I grow up I want to be a pet-sitter!
🙂
Hahahaha that’s hilarious!
