crockpot applesauce

I recently came across this recipe on Pinterest (along with about 100 others that I can’t wait to try) and I decided that since my kiddos LOVE applesauce I would give it a shot.  Seemed pretty simple and straightforward.  PLUS, since I own an apple peeler/corer I wouldn’t have to peel all of the apples by hand.  Because I’m going to be honest with you ~ that would have been a deal breaker for me.  I mean, who has time to peel 5-6 pounds of apples??  Not this Mama.

Our homemade applesauce was a HUGE hit!!  I might never buy pre-made applesauce again.  It is SO delicious!!  So, without further ado ~ the recipe.  I hope your family enjoys it as much as mine does!

  • 8 medium apples (Use a combination of different types of apples for a depth in flavor)
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 3 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 5 tsp light brown sugar (unpacked)
  • 1. Peel, core and chop the apples.
  • 2. Add the sugar, lemon peel, lemon juice and cinnamon stick.
  • 3. Set crock pot to low and cook for 6 hours. Stir apples occasionally, apples will slowly become a delicious applesauce. Use an immersion blender to blend until smooth or if you prefer a chunky sauce, leave sauce intact.
  • 4. Can and process as you would other recipes or keep refrigerated up to 3 weeks (good luck keeping it around for that long!)
